You deserve an expert photographer’s opinion when planning your wedding and engagement photos. One of our favorite ways to connect with our clients before the wedding is through the pre-wedding engagement shoot. After photographing many couples all around Kansas City we have compiled our insight so you can get the engagement session of your dreams.
Why Get Engagement Photos
When considering doing an engagement session with your wedding photographer, there are so many benefits that go beyond receiving the images themselves. This is a time to first soak in the excitement of your engagement season with one another and have the beginning of this story captured for you.
This time will be the perfect opportunity for you to build trust with your photographer and learn how we pose and direct and in turn you’ll feel comfortable and gorgeous in front of the camera. A feeling you will be familiar with when it comes to your wedding day with us!
Preparing for Your Engagement Session
Consider hiring a professional team for your hair and makeup so that you can stay stress free getting styled and confident knowing you look your best. Oftentimes, this is a great opportunity to practice with your wedding day styling team.
When deciding if a one or two hour session is right for you, consider whether or not you want a variety of looks and locations – If you want multiple outfit changes and various locations a two hour session is the way to go (dress changes typically take about 15 minutes each). Alternatively, Our 1 hour session is a great option for you if you want one location and have one outfit option.
Choose a season that fits your style embracing natural light when possible for sun-drenched and flattering photos. If you aren’t a fan of being in the hot sun or you sweat a lot, consider doing your session October – May or choose your favorite indoor location.
Finding the Right Engagement Photo Location
Choosing the perfect location for your engagement photos is an important step in capturing the essence of your relationship. Whether you envision a quick session at a single location or have a grand vision for your engagement shoot, the choice of locations influences your overall experience. It’s important to select places that resonate with your vibe and personality, creating an authentic and meaningful backdrop for your photos.
For couples seeking privacy and a more intimate atmosphere, outdoor and secluded locations provide the ideal setting, especially if you’re not entirely comfortable with public displays of affection or having your photos taken in crowded places. Consider veering away from popular indoor spots like Hotel KC or bustling downtown bars, and opt for settings that give you space to connect with each other. If you still desire that editorial flair but need a bit of time to ease into the shoot, save your public location for the second part of your session.
